Following the success of Crackables1.0, OnePlus once again set out to launch a puzzle-solving competition and develop the story of Crax. Crackables 2.0 was designed to appeal to a broader audience, extending beyond the tech community that embraced the original game. By leveraging live streams, mobile gaming, social media, AI, YouTube, and influencers, we crafted a new version of the game that captured the attention of both hardcore gamers and casual puzzle enthusiasts.
Crackables 2.0 is a story-driven, web-based mobile game set in an alternative reality where players race to solve cryptography-themed puzzles. Guided by a rogue pink-haired AI, players competed to crack codes through multiple rounds, each culminating in a massive cooperative community challenge.
In this installment, we learn more about Crax and her arch-nemesis - the Gatekeeper. Only a couple players found all the secret messages and uncovered the truth written between the lines.
The game was structured to be increasingly competitive, with only the fastest players advancing through the rounds. The culmination was a Grand Finale, a live-streamed puzzle-solving battle hosted by YouTube gamer PrestonPlayz, where the top ten finalists competed for a $10,000 prize and an additional $10,000 for charity.
The entire competiton took place during the pandemic and we jumped through many hoops to make it happen.
