In 2023, Space Invaders celebrated 45 years since its arcade debut, marking a milestone in gaming history. To honor this occasion and showcase technological advancements, TAITO and Google collaborated to reenvision the classic game, allowing fans to battle 3D Invaders in the real world.
The game merges augmented reality and 3D gameplay, transforming the world into a digital playground. Powered by Google's ARCore and Geospatial API, players defend Earth from Invaders in their local neighborhoods transformed in AR.
Space Invaders was one of the first games I have ever played and getting to work with the franchise was as surreal as it was a great honor.
